A planning guide for families returning to Lucknow for Diwali: when to arrive, where to stay, how to fit in family, and how to rest after a long journey.
Coming home for Diwali is a dense kind of trip. There are relatives to see, rituals to join and several days of food, all after a long flight. A little planning means you arrive for the festival instead of just in time for it, and that you are rested enough to enjoy it.
If you are returning to Lucknow for Diwali, arrive two or three days before Dhanteras on 6 November so that tiredness settles, stay close to the airport and family, and plan rest between visits. ORNATE is in Vrindavan Yojna, about 12 minutes from the airport, with rooms, dining and a spa on one property.
How should you plan the trip?
| When | Plan |
|---|---|
| 2 to 3 days before 6 Nov | Arrive, rest and settle into your room |
| 6 Nov (Dhanteras) | Family visits, and shopping if you wish |
| 8 Nov (Diwali) | Puja and a family dinner |
| 9 and 10 Nov | Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj, usually family lunches |
Why does the distance from the airport matter?
After a long journey, the last stretch matters more than it should. ORNATE is about 12 minutes from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, and about 8 minutes from Lulu Mall, 10 from Alambagh and 16 from Hazratganj and Gomti Nagar. These are approximate drive times published by ORNATE, and traffic around the festival can change them. See 12 minutes from Lucknow airport for more.
Why stay at a hotel when family is in the city?
- Your own room, and your own sleep, after a long flight.
- Meals on site on the days relatives are busy.
- A treatment or a swim to recover from travel.
- Space to host a few relatives without crowding anyone's home.
- Check-in is 2:00 PM; ask about early check-in if you land in the morning.
How can you recover from a long journey?
The spa and salon offers Deep Tissue & Recovery, a therapist-led treatment of 60 or 90 minutes, and the Awadhi Glow Ritual, a 90-minute signature treatment with botanical elixirs that is also available for couples. There is a rooftop pool as well. None of these cure a long flight, but a treatment on the first afternoon is a good way to start the stay.
